Plot Outline: A man against capital punishment is accused of murdering a fellow activist and is sent to death row.
Plot: Dr. David Gale, an advocate of eliminating the death penalty, is falsely accused of rape and murder. Once convicted, he ends up on death row in Texas himself, telling his story to a reporter through a series of flashbacks.
Crazy Credits: We know about 2 Crazy Credits. One of them reads:
Special thanks to the extras who bravely survived a cold, wet, Pennsylvanian spring.
Goofs: We know about 11 goofs. Here comes one of them:
Continuity: When Zack and Bitsey are re-creating Constances death, you can clearly see Zack bump the tripod-mounted camera as he moves. But in the next shot, the view on the monitor is the same. Such a jolt would have severely changed the composition of the shot.
Trivia: There are 8 entries in the trivia list - like these:
- Kevin Spacey was the third choice to play David Gale. George Clooney and Nicolas Cage both rejected the part. Nicolas Cage had the script and gave it to Parker, but was already busy with other projects.
- Filming of a death penalty protest scene at the Texas State Capitol was briefly disrupted by the arrival of a group of real political protesters.
- The scene where Gale is drunk in downtown Austin (6th street) was somewhat improvised and shot with two lights and a camera. “Most of those people arent extras,” Alan Parker said to an audience at the University of Washington.
